Zoysia matrella (L.) Merr.subsp. tenuifolia Koyama, Grass. Jap. Neighb. Reg. 289. 1987. Culm densely tufted, with long stolon. Blade 4-5 cm lon up to 1 mm wide; ligule 0.3 mm long, upper part a fringe of hairs; sheath-mouth with long silky hairs. Inflorescence a single raceme, about 1 cm long, straw colored. Spikelets 1-flowered about 2 mm long, lanceolate; lower glume wanting; upper glume as long as the spikelet, coriaceous, except the upper margin, 5-nerved, ovate; lemma nearly as long as the upper glume, subcoriaceous, but margins membranous, 1-nerved; palea and lodicule reduced; anther 0.6-0.8 mm long.
