Oecanthus pellucens, common name Italian Tree Cricket, is a species of tree crickets. It is present in most of Europe, especially in the countries around the Mediterranean with a focus on Southern Europe, in the Near East and in North Africa, in the European part of Russia, Ukraine, in the Crimea, the Caucasus, Transcaucasia, North-Western Kazakhstan, in the south of Western Siberia, China and Japan. This cricket is mainly nocturnal. In the hottest hours of the day the insects are hiding under the leaves. They sing from about five o'clock until three o'clock in the morning. The males rub their wings together (stridulation) to produce a subtle but constant, fluctuating in volume sound.
