The Akupa (Eleotris sandwicensis) is the only member of the family Eleotridae found in the Hawaiian Islands. This sleeper fish is a top predator in Hawaiian freshwater ecosystem, feeding on fishes and invertebrates. Only found in the lower reaches of streams and estuaries the Akupa can reach a total length of 33 cm (13 in).
