Increase in phagosome volume and dilution of fluid phase marker prior to premature exocytosis. The cell is expressing VatM-GFP and was incubated for 3 hours with TRITC-dextran, then shifted to unlabeled buffer and observed.
Removal of the V-ATPase from the membrane of a yeast-containing phagosome, followed by actin assembly and exocytosis. The cell is expressing VatM-GFP and mRFP-LimEΔ.

Summary[edit] Description: English: In addition to its social cycle, D. discoideum also undergoes a sexual cycle in nature wherein haploid amoebas of different mating types fuse into a diploid zygote and induce nearby cells to sacrifice themselves to provide nutrients and to produce a macrocyst wall. Like the sacrifice of stalk cells in the social cycle, this process may drive conflict between genotypes over which cells are sacrificed, but difficulty inducing the sexual cycle in the laboratory means further research is required. Summary[edit] Description: English: There is evidence for varying degrees of self-sorting among Dictyostelid species. Cells bearing the same alloreceptors preferentially bind to one another in an aggregate and thus may increase relatedness (and thereby reduce the opportunity for cheating) within developing fruiting bodies by sorting kin into distinct regions of the aggregate.
