Description: Climacodon septentrionalis (Fr.) P. Karst. Image location: Semipalatinsk surroundings forest or Semey Ormany, Kazakhstan Climacodon septentrionale (Fr.) Karsten Hydnaceae, Aphyllophorales. (Northen Tooth, Климакодон северный) Cap: 8-20cm wide, 2-4cm thick (when single) flattened or slightly convex semicircular or fan-shaped, even as a thick pan-cake or irregular bumpy; a cap often consists of overlapped layers, almost smooth or fine velvety white up to yellowish-white or dull yellowish-brown when old. Cap grows through old and living branches, including them and other vegetation fragments into a cap. Young mushroom has white cottony-like margins. It’s a pity that I did not study other features. Stalk: absent (lateral fixation edge). Habitat: single or overlapped cluster on the old partially rotten pine-tree stumps or trunks minor at the base of living trees. Edibility: no data, stiff. Season: June-September Recognized by sight : For more information about this, see the observation page at Mushroom Observer.
