Here is a live underwater, sitting on the shell of a Strombus alatus, which also has a small live Costoanachis on it. I believe this was another hermit-crabbed conch shell, not a live one.

When you look at the beach drift on Sanibel, you see mostly valves of bivalve species, with only a few gastropods mixed in. The most common species of gastropod appears to be this one, Crepidula fornicata.
