Summary[edit] Description: Moths are on the move again despite torrential rain Hi all. I have run the trap on Sunday night and Tuesday night and hopefully will run it again tonight. On Sunday night the weather was quite cool and clear and so 5 moths was the only return for a lengthy spell of Mercury Vapor light. But..things changed mid-week and instead of clear skies we got cloudy ones but then came the rain. Undeterred by this I still braved the trap up against the house with just a few eggs trays around it, as predicted by the morning everything was drenched. 28 moths of 17 species was a surprise indeed. Highlights were 7 Plutella xylostella's (these are having a good year in my garden) a seldom seen Brick which I missed out on last year, a year first Sprawler and November Moth and two more cryptically patterned Acleris schalleriana. Satellite was also a season first with one Orange Satellite and one White Satellite on each wing. Summary[edit] Description: Latest from the garden trap Not much happening at the moment with this dense and patchy fog and increased dampness, the moths don't see to be interested in venturing too far away from their homes ( i.e the trees!) For November though the temperatures are brilliant with an average daytime temperature of 15 degrees but sometimes much cooler depending on if the fog clears in time for the sun to warm things up. Towards the end of the week we might be looking at 18 or 19 degrees and 10-12 degrees at night, very pleasant indeed! Nothing new in the trap but Spruce Carpet mixed it up a bit. The catch was low and expected with all this damp cool air at night. Summary[edit] Description: Welcome to 2017! + Final moth round-up from November Happy New Year to all of my bloggers and followers, lets hope this year is great for recording whatever wildlife you can find :) Here is a brief summary of catches from November. Highlights were a few Sprawlers, always a pleasure to see these extremely streaky moths and I was lucky to see three different specimens in November. Other notables were my latest record of Barred Sallow on the 14th of November. Summary[edit] Description: Another multi-catch report Little time to write much, but did managed to get the trap out last Wednesday and Thursday night as it was nice and mild but a tad windy with on and off showers both nights. The result wasn't many moths at all, but Large Wainscot was new for the garden and lovely to see, a probable migrant/wanderer as the habitat around here is no where near suitable. It is my 401st species of Moth for the garden since August 2012. 3 Sprawlers over the two nights was also a bonus and another Caloptilia semifascia to boot. Barred Sallow still hanging on with one individual on the 30th of October. I am a little concerned about Merveille du jour, last year I got just two on the 22nd of October. I initially thought I had more than that, but the records don't lie! Other moths that might not get a garden look in this year are.. Brick 2012 (7) 2013 (0) Black Rustic 2012 (2) 2013 (0) Both of which made appearances last year as can be seen above. Next week could be changeable so I will see when it is best to put the trap out.
