A rare salt marsh plant, Palmer's frankenia is a woody, low-lying shrub that grows in salt marshes along the coast of California. It has very tiny and plump leaves, with a delicate white and pink flower that blooms in the spring (see closeup photo in this set). (Lisa Cox/USFWS).
