this pair of insect moved through the ground covered with dried foliage - grass from the genus bromus, big leaf maple (acer macrophyllum) and canyon live oak (quercus chrysolepis) on the mountain side of the main trail connected to one another from their behind. location at gabrielino trail. time was 0904 h. weather was full sun, sunny, no clouds.

Walking along the parking lot cement was this red and black insect. I have never seen one before. After doing some researching it appears this was a nymph of the Boxelder bug.

These bugs seemed to be covering the tree. Their eggs hatch about this time of year and we were able to see eggs and small new bugs
