I came across this short tailed shrew during my visit to woodland estate which is about 40 mins away from Peterborough. I usually come across shrew when I visit Michigan, so I was really surprise to see them here in Ontario.

This shrew was killed in a mousetrap. It is the largest shrew I have observed. The body was approximately 9 cm. long and the tail was approximately 3 cm. long. The relative shortness of the tail in relation to the body and the relatively dark belly fur lead me to believe that this is a northern short-tailed shrew. The odd shape on the end of the nose is dried blood.
