Summary[
edit] Description: Massive catch-up ensues I'm going to be brief because I am way behind! This is a catch from the 30th of July! With such a poor start to 2016 and into early summer things weren't much better. And then it all just happened and July and August has seen some fantastic quality of records for Hertfordshire. On the 30th of July I recorded some great species in my garden, with Recurvaria nanella, Piniphila bifasciana, Coleophora hemerobiella, Swammerdamia pyrella and Carpatolechia fugitivella all new moths for my garden and backed up by uncommon garden Macro species such as Dusky Sallow and Old Lady. Catching up with catches. The prequel.. A flipping huge catch last Monday night, apologies for being a week behind but time seems to run away with me during peak moth season with photos to take, edit and then the list to type up. This catch was just prior to the previous post about the fantastic night's trapping on the farm. For my garden this amount of moths was brilliant with loads of new moths for the year list. Best of all there were two new species for my garden, namely Epiblema costipunctana, a fairly common Tortrix moth that I use to catch on the farm regularly. The other was Eana incanana, another good species and one i've trapped before on the farm also. Not content with one, I trapped another on Friday night! Happy mothing everyone! Finally a Tree-lichen Beauty! A combined catch result for this week chaps, as I haven't had much time to update thy blog. Being officially married now means that my mothing exploits will apparently subdue over the years to come (but not too soon I must add!) I trapped on the 6th, 8th and 9th this week with pretty mixed results but with a downward trend starting to happen as we go into the beginning of the end....or is it? There was me going through the trap each time expecting to not be that thrilled with late Summer catches (Yes in the moth world it is nearing Autumn already) then to stumble upon rare and interesting moths in each of the three session. 6th was the Cydia amplana night, on the 8th star of the show was Acrolepiopsis assectella, both completely new moths for me. The on the 9th after EVERYBODY else has had one, finally I managed a Tree-lichen Beauty....it's never too late is it! Also a Footman needs checking for Hoary. All in all a good end to the week trapping. A belated catch-up with some unbelievable garden records! Again i'm playing catch up with catches from the 21st/22nd and 24th of June combined as i'm just too knackered to do the full list so here are the new species for my garden before I went jetting off to the South of France. Here are all of the new ones making the year list total increase dramatically during a warm spell with muggy mild nights. Highlights were garden firsts of Reddish Light Arches, Coronet, Blackneck, Argyresthia retinella, Endothenia nigricostana, Apotomis capreana and Hypsopygia glaucinalis. And it was also pleasing to complete the resident Hawk-moth list for the garden with Pine Hawk-moth. Garden Mothing has never been so good!! And things haven't let up at all with my first catch from last night (after getting back from France) a huge 150+ moths of 70+ species. The warm weather continues for the rest of the week with highs of 30 possible by the end of the week and tonight is looking fantastic so I will be lighting up again.
