On banks of Fleming River, in the Forest And Bird Lenz Reserve, Tautuku. The Karearea had just caught a male mallared and was in the process of eating it.

Looks like a Karearea prey kill, but it was interrupted before it had finished plucking the bird. I think this was on the Campbell St to Wrights Hill track, but might have been along the Zealandia outer boundary track. Looks like it was probably killed by Karearea, some of the first evidence I saw that they had moved into the area.

My first siting of Karearea in Wellington. I saw the bird land in the pine tree and about 5 minutes later it zoomed rapidly down over the Zealandia fence.

Ron pointed out this Karearea, otherwise I'd never have spotted it.
