This is the mighty poroporo moth (Sceliodes cordalis). Its caterpillars feed in the fruit and stems of the native New Zealand poroporo plants (Solanum aviculare and S. laciniatum). For the purists out there, note that I rotated the main image 90º clockwise. It's really sitting on a wall. (051227#005_2)

Feeding on Solanum laciniatum (identified by me from the large stone cells in the fruit) A late (last?) instar shoot borer larva in its bore and holes in the fruit from other Sceliodes larvae.

Inside house. Posture like that of wattle gall moth.

Found a fat red caterpillar beginning to spin a cocoon on a chair inside (unfortunately I didn't photograph it then). Put it in a container where it pupated in a silk cocoon and this emerged.
