The pen for scale is 144 mm long. From the dark wing colouration, I suspect that it's a young bird.

Feeding on a dead hare in a field along Robinsons Road. It wasn't any evidence that the hare had been killed on the road, although that's still a possibility.

Photo isn't great, but I think the way the wings are held is pretty distinctive. A few minutes later there was a commotion and I looked up to see the Harrier being chased off by three squaking Spur-Winged Plover.

On our way from Maraetai to Whitford,we saw 4 Harrier Hawks, Kahu. One of the hawks had caught some food and was flying off the road and into the bush.
