Die Stompneus-penhaai (Squalus megalops) is 'n haai wat voorkom in Suid-Afrika en Australië. In Engels staan die haai bekend as die Shortnose spiny dogfish.

Voorkoms

Die haai het twee dorsale vinne met die agterste vin wat kleiner as die voorste vin is. Die haai is donkerbruin of grys aan die bokant terwyl dit ligter is aan die onderkant. Word tot 78 cm lank en kom tot op 'n diepte van 500 m voor. Die oë het 'n groen skynsel. Is nog volop in Suid-Afrikaanse kuswaters.

Found on the outer continental shelves and upper slopes. Forms large schools. Feeds on bony fishes inlcuding lanternfishes, star-eaters (@Astronesthes@), snake and conger eels, scorpion fishes, shrimps, cephalopods and other sharks. Ovoviviparous, with 2 to 4 young in a litter. Some sexual segregation occurs, on the east coast of South Africa, with breeding females staying more southerly in distribution. Utilized for human consumption.
