Die albakoor (Thunnus alalunga) is 'n roofvis wat deel van die Tunafamilie is en kom aan die hele kuslyn van Suid-Afrika voor en wêreldwyd in koeler, dieper water. In Engels staan die vis bekend as die Longfinfin Tuna of Albacore. Die vis is 'n gewilde sportvis.

Vorm

Die vis is torpedovormig, donkerblou aan die bokant en terwyl die sye en pens silwergrys is. Die vinne is geel en die anale vinne is grys. Die pektorale vinne is lank. Die gemiddelde massa van die vis wissel van 10 tot 15 kg terwyl die Suid-Afrikaanse rekord 40 kg en die lengte van dié vis 140 cm is.

Gewoontes

Hulle verkies koeler water, soos die Benguela-stroom aan die Weskus in die wintermaande wanneer die water van 16 tot 19 °C warm is, en kom voor tot op dieptes van 600 m. Hulle vreet veral pelagiese vis en pylinkvis.

El bonitu o bonitu del norte (Thunnus alalunga), ye una especie que se pesca nel mar Cantábricu, anque nun tien nada que ver cola especie de los Sarda y suel llevar a tracamundiu y creer que'l bonitu ye igual que la xerra.

Tien un llargor d'hasta 140 cm y pesos d'hasta 60 kg. estrémase del atún (Thunnus thynnus) porque tien una aleta pectoral más grande que la del atún común y unes rayes oblicues de color escuru en dambos llaos de la zona dorsal.

El bonitu ye un preciáu alimentu, comercialmente péscase con anzuelu pa que'l pexe nun sufra y ufierte una carne de mayor calidá. Tamién ye apreciáu por pescadores deportivos.

El bonitu del norte vive mientres l'iviernu nes agües próximes a los Azores y muévese a finales de la primavera (mayu o xunu) al Mar Cantábricu. Ye mientres estes migraciones cuando s'empecipia la campaña del bonitu, llamada costera, qu'acaba xeneralmente en septiembre. Nella participen barcos procedentes de Galicia, Asturies, Cantabria, País Vascu y Francia.

Found in offshore waters (Ref. 9340). Abundant in surface and deeper waters of 9.5° to 25.2°C forming mixed schools with skipjack tuna, yellowfin tuna and bluefin tuna. May tolerate lowered temperatures up to 9.5°C for short periods (Ref. 9340). Known to concentrate along thermal discontinuities. Schools may be associated with floating objects, including sargassum weeds. Feeds on fishes, crustaceans and squids. Also caught by trolling (Ref. 9684). Highly appreciated and marketed fresh, smoked, deep frozen or canned. Eaten steamed, broiled, fried and microwaved (Ref. 9987).

An epi- and mesopelagic, oceanic species, abundant in surface waters of 15.6° to 19.4°C; deeper swimming, large albacore are found in waters of 13.5° to 25.2°C; temperatures as low as 9.5°C may be tolerated for short periods.
